Knights
of the Lunch Table #1: Completed
December
3rd, 2007

Free at last! Free at last! I'm done with book one. It weighs
in at 144 full color pages. I'm told it will be out in July
08.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to re-introduce myself to
my family and friends.
Otto's
Orange Day
November
19th, 2007

I know it's been a long time since I posted and you're probably
wondering what I've been up to. Well, I've been busy working
on Knights of the Lunch Table.
It's in the final stages of production and I should be done
in a couple of weeks. Producing a graphic novel has been quite
an experience. More on that later.
But right now, I want to talk about another project. I've
had the honor of illustrating and co-creating a story for
Toon
Books. That's the new line of kids comics
by Francoise Mouly
and Art Spiegelman.
The book is called Otto's Orange
Day and I colaborated with the great underground
cartoonist Jay Lynch.
It was a blast to work on and will be out spring 08.
That's all for now, back to the drawing board, only 40 pages
to go!
Hart
Seely's New Book!
June
1st, 2007

My good friend and occasional writing partner Hart Seely
has a new book out.
Hart previously penned Pieces
of Intelligence, the Poetry of Donald Rumsfeld.
This time out he's written a book of political nursery rhymes.
It's called Mrs.
Goose Goes to Washington . This book is
great. It's cutting, mean-spirited and wickedly hilarious
(in all the right ways, to all the RIGHT people).
Go buy a copy before it gets banned!
Getting

I've been busy with the Knights
of the Lunch Table. I just finished the script
and the breakdowns. Now the fun can begin, DRAWING!
By the way, the fellow above is named Artie. He's the star
of Knights.
Back to work!

Prince
Valiant
February
18th, 2007

In my quest for inspiration for the Knights
of the Lunch Table, I've rediscovered
Prince Valiant. It has been years
since I really looked at this strip. Of course the art by
Hal Foster is incredible, but what I didn't remember was the
engaging story. It must have been fantastic to open up the
sunday funnies and read these masterpieces.
I find that one of the hardest things to do when I'm working
on a big project, is to stay inspired. Prince Valiant has
certainly helped me. I have even gone as far as buying a DVD
of the 1950's movie, starring Robert Wagner and Janet Leigh.
It's really quite a bit of fun, in a hokey 50's swashbuckling
way.
I can only hope that I may capture some of the magic and
excitement for my own book.
Knights
Quest
January
24th, 2007

It has begun. I've started the first Knights
of the Lunch Table book. Actually, I've been
knee deep in the project for months. Watching films, doing
research and just getting the feel for the setting. I've become
a bit of an authority on Authurian legends.
I recently finished the script. Let me tell you, that was
quite a quest. Writing does not come as easy to me as drawing
does. But, for all the revisions, I feel pretty good about
it. Soon I will start to pencil. That is when the real fun
begins.
Old
Newsboys
December
7th, 2006

Every year I create one of the covers for The
Old Newsboys Edition of the The Post-Standard.
The Old Newsboys is a charity that raises money to give gifts
to less fortunate children. I always have a ton of fun drawing
the covers, and this year was no exception. At some point,
I post a few from other years.
If you are in the CNY this weekend pick up an copy it's for
a good cause.
It's
a Wonderful Presidency
November

My good friend and writing partner Hart Seely and I have
a humour piece on Slate.
From the picture you can guess what it's about. We've had
this one kicking around for years. An oldie but a goodie.
What's old is new!
Back
to Middle School
November
16th, 2006

I just spent the day at my old middle school, Durgee
Jr. High, in Baldwinsville. I was there doing
research for my next graphic novel,
Knights of the Lunch Table. It was strange
to be back. I remember things being much bigger and much darker.
I had a great time hanging out and observing. It was an eventful
day, I got to tour of the bowels of the school, I went to
gym class and I even ate a school lunch. YUM! Some things
don't change.
I'd like to thank Wendy Robinson, Ken Weston and all the
faculty and kids for lettting me tag along all day and shoot
pictures. It was awesome!
My
Favorite Time of Year
October
28 th, 2006

I love the fall! Whether it's the color of the trees or
the crispness in the air, autumn always makes me feel like
everything is right in the world. Even if it's not. (Remember
to vote Nov. 7th).
Anyways, last Sunday I spent the day at the Syracuse
Heroes Expo. It was a huge success. Thanks
to everyone who stopped by to chat. That will probably be
my last convention for a while. I'm going to lock myself away
for the next 7-8 months and work on the Knights
of the Lunch Table. I'll post from time to
time. Happy Halloween.
Scholastic
Fantastic
October
5th, 2006

I've got some huge news that will be keeping me quite busy
for the next couple years. I've just signed a four book deal
with Scholastic.
I'm very excited about this because I'll be doing my own
projects. I'll miss self publishing a little, but it will
be nice just to put all my focus on the creative side of things
for a change. What does this mean for Max Hamm? It looks like
the porcine P.I. will be on much needed vacation, but I can
tell you he will be back. Click
here for the official announcement.
