I usually don’t feel all that patriotic, but last night was the first time in a LONG time I was proud to be an American.
For the last 7 or 8 years I’ve felt like the US had been hijacked and we were horribly off course. I’m happy to report, we’ve got our country back. You are now free to move around the cabin.

Last night during Barack Obama’s info-mercial, I was struck by something his wife Michelle mentioned. She said that Barack and one of his daughters had read all the Harry Potter Books together and that they are big fans.
That got me thinking. What if Barack Obama was Harry Potter? After all people are calling him the chosen one. So I whipped up a couple of sketches.

Then I thought, who is McCain? He’s NOT Voldemort, that’s Cheney. Then I figured it out, McCain is Mad eye Moody. Actually this would explain a lot. McCain hasn’t been acting like himself lately. I bet the real McCain is tied up in a trunk somewhere.

Now that I’ve figured that out, please remember to vote!

They say, you never forget you’re first show. Or something to that affect. It was ten years ago that I attended my first Small Press Expo and on that day my life changed.
There aren’t many places in your life where you can say, THAT event changed my life. Well, going to SPX all those years ago was a turning point for me. It was the moment I knew that I could draw a comic book.? So, it was a very special to me this past weekend to go back to the Bethesda.
I had a great time. It was nice to see alot of old friends and familar faces. The panels that I was on were lively and fun. I picked up tons of terrific comics and I even sold out of some books. I look forward next years show!

This weekend I’ll be at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, MD.? I’ll on two panels that represent the two sides of my career. The first is about kid’s comics and the next is political cartoons. I’m being joined by some very talented people so both panels should be good fun.
Children’s and YA Comic Books
3:30-4:30 Conference Room
Comics were long considered a children’s medium before ambitious cartoonists began making comics for an adult audience. More recently, good work for children had nearly become an endangered species before a contemporary resurgence in comics for younger audiences. Panelists Frank Cammuso, Hope Larson, Dave Roman and Raina Telgemeier will discuss issues related to making comics for children and young adults.
Frontline Cartooning: The Editorial Page
4:30-5:30 Conference Room
Ted Rall is the president of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists. Nate Beeler is the political cartoonist for the Washington Examiner. Matt Wuerker is a long time cartoonist now working for Politico.com, and Frank Cammuso is the political cartoonist of the Syracuse Post-Standard. Matthew Forsyth will lead this group on a discussion of the challenges of the editorial page, including censorship, the digital world and the changes in the business of editorial cartooning.
Looks like I’m going to have a very busy Saturday afternoon.

A few months back I received this set of blank cards in the mail. It was for the 20th anniversary of the Midwest Comic Book Association. They sent these card out to comic book artist all over the world. The idea is to have the artist draw what ever they want on the cards and then send them back to MCBA so they can give them away at their convention.
Naturally, I put off drawing mine for a while. But one day I decided to draw a card as a warm up for my political cartoon. I chose a theme, The Marvel Family. I’ve always loved this comic and the recent Jeff Smith and Mike Kunkel version are terrific.
So here they are, I think they turned out quite nice.
